Becker Photonik GmbH is a young company specialized on NDT for industrial and scientific applications using all-electronic 3D terahertz imaging. The company provides inspection services as well as mobile terahertz inspection units.

Many dielectric materials (plastics, fibre reinforced plastics, ceramics, paper, textiles) can be penetrated using 3D terahertz imaging. Depending on the operating frequency and the material under investigation a penetration depth of up to 100 mm can be achieved.

The newly developed mobile units can also be used to measure the thickness of plastic parts, e.g. PE parts. Pipe extrusion is one important application of this technique. For PE the working range is from 4 mm thickness (using 0.3 THz) up to 100 mm (using 0.1 THz). The system determines the optical distance between the entry echo and the backwall echo. Using the refractive index the geometrical thickness can easily be calculated.
