Fraunhofer Institute for High Frequency Physics and Radar Techniques FHR

Germany

Detection of impurities in food, ensuring the thickness of an adhesive layer or measuring the dimensions of slabs – just a few examples of the remarkable capabilities of radar. Due to its unique capabilities, e.g. in-depth scanning of materials, independence from dust and vapor and high sensitivity to range rate changes, radar is now an indispensable tool for various industrial applications.

For all its customers, especially in the business unit Production, Fraunhofer FHR aims to deliver integrated, individual solutions that also optimize costs, the development period and the techniques that are used. The integration of sensors in the production process is a central focus. Thanks to the alliance with partners within and outside the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, a wide spectrum of different sensors and measurement techniques is now available. The multispectral sensor concepts even allow solutions for tasks that previously could not be accomplished with conventional quality control systems. In addition to the ability to detect and visualize errors in a product, modern high frequency systems by Fraunhofer FHR offer inline monitoring for the entire production process, even at high belt speeds.

The Fraunhofer Institute for High Frequency Physics and Radar Techniques FHR has focused on the fine-tuning of existing radar systems and the development of groundbreaking new radar technology for over 50 years. The institute‘s research activities offered to customers are conducted in six business units: Defense, Space, Traffic, Environment, Security and Production.
