Established in 1953, the Industrial Research Institute (IRI) is registered as a Lebanese nonprofit institution declared of public utility by D/L n° 10059 dated 17 August 1955, linked to the Ministry of Industry by Law n° 642/1997, with administrative and financial autonomy for studies, industrial research and scientific testing, calibration, inspection and certification (system, product and personnel).
Our mission is to ensure an adequate service regarding technical and scientific support to the Lebanese industrialists and the national economy, especially in the framework of the partnership’s agreements with the European Community and Lebanon’s integration in the World Trade Organization (WTO).
IRI activities cover most of the conformity assessment activities and is already a member in many international organizations:ILAC, NCSLI,EUROLAB,ICC,ISTA & ICNDT.
The Lebanese Welding Center, linked to the Industrial Research Institute, was financed under a French-Lebanese protocol and started its activities in March 1998. The aim in the creation of this center is to bring the best solutions to welding problems of Lebanese companies through the Training Center (welding and NDT),Certification of personnel (welders and NDT personnel), the Study and Research bureau and the Inspection and Control Services (VT, RT, UT, PT, MT).
In 6 June 2002, the law number 423 was issued who designated the Industrial Research Institute as the Accreditation Body and the only organization authorized to issue certificates of conformity related to all types of welding in Lebanon.
According to this law, all National & International establishment that executing welding, Inspection, Supervision control and testing of all types of welding have to be accredited by the Industrial Research Institute.
