Carl Zeiss Industrielle Messtechnik GmbH belongs to the Industrial Metrology business group of the ZEISS Group and is a leading manufacturer of multidimensional metrology solutions: coordinate measuring machines & metrology software for the automotive, aircraft, mechanical engineering and plastics industries.

ZEISS has been selling computer tomography systems since 2006.

The systems offered are divided into 3 families

  • High accuracy: ZEISS METROTOM MPESD  ≥4µm +l/100    (VDI/VDE 2630)
  • High speed: ZEISS VoluMax with scanning time of 5 – 100s
  • High resolution: ZEISS Xradia Versa and Ultra  with spatial resolution of 50 – 700nm

The ZEISS METROTOM is used in the measuring lab. The specialty is metrology in strict compliance with the standards. A typical application is the first part inspection reports for new products. The advantage is that all required features, also those that are concealed, can be measured without destruction of the part. All measured results are traceable to the standard.

The ZEISS VoluMax high speed CT can be used on the production floor. In a few seconds the CT scans the part and calculates a 3D volume. At the customer’s request the evaluation is performed automatically. After scanning and evaluation the results are stored in a database for further analyses such as production trend analyses. With the aid of a robotic or a conveyer  system, the high speed CT can be integrated into the production process. Multiple solutions have already been realized.

The Xradia Versa and Ultra high resolution CT system uses special microscope technology to achieve maximum resolution and image contrast. Because of this superior feature one of its typical applications is materials analysis. The systems have proven their excellent many times during the analysis of geology specimens, metal or non-metal test samples or electronic components. Biological specimens have also been scanned at multiple sites.
